Spring Cleaning: 5 Yoga Poses to Detoxify the Body

As the first buds of spring begin to bravely pop their heads through the softening winter soil, we too begin our return to light. Spring welcomes a time of renewal physically and energetically, and a perfect opportunity to sweep away the cobwebs of winter, detoxifying the body for the warmer months ahead.

These five yoga postures—including twists, folds, and inversions—can assist in releasing any build-up of toxins in the body that may need a little help finding their way out. You can practice these postures in any order or on their own. You may also want to start by warming the body with some sun salutations before practicing these postures.

[Side Note: Upon preparing this article, I had all intentions of shooting these yoga postures outdoors with the stunning Icelandic landscape as the backdrop, but Mother Nature had other plans. Come to find out spring in Iceland, while strikingly beautiful, can also mean hailstorms and Gail force winds. With that, the black and white tiled bathroom floor had to suffice for these shots—good thing it was heated! Stay tuned for some recipes and insights from my recent trip to Iceland.]
